JESSICA WOODS MAKES 4 IN A ROW

Nine of Australia’s top Women players contested the 2016 national championships in Adelaide from 5th -7th August.

As the entries were down from previous years it was decided to have one group of nine players in the round robin stage providing value for money. This proved to be two gruelling days of snooker for the players as each had eight matches to play in an attempt to qualify for the knockout stage. Kathy Howden eventually finished top closely followed by Jessica Woods with Theresa Whitten and Jenny Budd finishing third and fourth respectively.

The semi final results were Jenny Budd defeated Kathy Howden 4-1 and Jessica Woods had a convincing win over Theresa Whitten 4-0.

In the final between Jessica Woods and Jenny Budd Jessica jumped out to win the first frame convincingly but Jenny fought back to win the second by potting the brown, blue, pink and black to win by 6 points. Jessica slipped into gear and won the next two frames to lead by 3-1 at the break. Jenny returned from the break to show her true form by winning the fifth frame convincingly but Jessica again asserted her authority and took the sixth frame 59 to 16 when Jenny conceded with the pink and black remaining on the table.

Congratulations Jessica on winning her fourth consecutive National Snooker Championship and to all nine women for a demanding eight match round robin section and demonstrating great sportsmanship throughout the tournament.

All four semi-finalists will be considered to represent Australia at the world championships later this year in Doha, Qatar.
