Not Another Win?

3 Jul 2017 by Alex Render

What an unbelievable last few weeks for Western Australian Matthew Bolton after winning the weekend’s West Coast International at the Pot Black Centre, North Perth. This follows Matthew’s recent wins at the Lance Pannell Snooker and the Australian National and Open Billiards in Victoria.

Once again Matthew faced Victorian Johl Younger in the best of 9 frame final and winning 5-2. Johl had the highest break of the tournament with a superb 131 in the semi final match against Ben Judge.

Johl made a comment on FaceBook last night wishing Matthew all the best in the UK and hopes to know win another tournament with Matthew out of the picture. Johl has been in and out of the game for many years but when he returns on the scene he is always one of the favourites to get to the final stages.

Although not making any century breaks this weekend, Matthew showed solid form with his all round game and safety play, and making frame winning breaks when they count. His closest match was in the semi final against fellow local Peter McCullagh winning 5-4 in a nail biter.

The West Coast International sees the end of the current winning streak by Matthew as he now ventures to the UK to compete on the World Professional Snooker Tour. Everyone in Australia wishes Matthew the best in his endeavours as a Professional. He will be in good company being supported by fellow Aussies Neil Robertson and Kurt Dunham.

What’s Next?

Next week we see the start of the Mitchell Billiards Cup and Junior Team Challenge followed by the Australian Junior Championships in Adelaide, SA.

Then we move onto the next Reventon National Ranking Event – Blacktown Workers Club, Ian Chappell Snooker Classic in Sydney.
